Honeoye
Since many years, one of the best varieties of very early varieties. Aromatic, well-shaped, quite firm, red and shiny fruits. An American variety with a high adaptive capacity, thus cultivated in many European countries and around the world.
Fruiting time: Very early variety, usually fruits from the end of May to the third decade (3rd week) of June.
Size and shape of fruits: Very attractive, conical, red and glossy fruits
Taste and firmness: Aromatic, strong in taste. Firm, red and juicy pulp. Perfectly endures transport (maintains freshly-picked look for a long time).
Productivity: Relatively high, including a high percentage of fruits in the first harvest.
Plant type: Of strong growth, not very compact, relatively erected.
Resistance: Honeoye is strongly resistant to frost. Resistant to fruit rot, gray mold (botrytis cinerea) and quite resistant to leaf diseases, common leaf spot (mycosphaerella fragariae) and leaf scorch disease (diplocarpon earlianum) and powdery mildew (sphaerotheca macularis). It should not be planted in places where strawberries and other plants from nightshade families or cucumbers were previously cultivated, because seedlings may become vulnerable to Verticillium wilt.
Purpose: For both dessert and processing purposes.
Cultivation type: Suitable for cultivation (including accelerated one) in soil, controlled-environment cultivation, as well as in high tunnels. For professional cultivation as well as in gardens and plots.
*The fruiting time involves traditional cultivation in Poland (Central Europe, moist continental climate) with standard weather conditions. The exact time of strawberries fruiting depends on the local climate, weather conditions in a given season as well as cultivation methods.
