The Clery strawberry variety is one of the most popular very early dessert varieties originating from Italy. It is valued for its attractive, large fruits, high firmness, and sweet taste with an intense aroma.
Ripening period: a very early variety. The fruits ripen approximately 3–4 days before Honeoye and 7–14 days before Elsanta.
Taste: the fruits are sweet and aromatic, often described as having a “wild strawberry aroma”.
Fruit size: the strawberries are large, elongated, and conical. The fruits remain uniform throughout the entire harvest period.
Attractiveness and fruit shape: large fruits with a conical shape.
Fruit colour: the fruits have a bright carmine-red colour.
Fruit firmness: the fruits are very firm and have good shelf life during transport.
Yield: a high-yielding variety, producing approximately 1 kg of fruit per plant.
Plant: the plants have moderately vigorous growth.
Resistance: the variety is fairly resistant to most leaf and root system diseases, as well as pests, when proper care is provided. The flowers can be susceptible to frost damage, and the fruits may become smaller in conditions of insufficient moisture. Good cultivation practices are required to maintain high fruit quality.
Use: the fruits have suitable durability for direct sales and distribution networks, thanks to their high resistance to transport.
Type of cultivation: a variety suitable for early production in tunnels and greenhouses, also appropriate for difficult soils.
Origin: the variety was bred by the Italian breeding company C.I.V. (Italy).
The indicated ripening period applies to traditional cultivation in Poland, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, under standard weather conditions. The exact ripening time of strawberries naturally depends on the local climate, weather conditions in a given season, and the cultivation method.
