Flair strawberry is one of the earliest dessert varieties, valued by growers for its exceptionally early ripening time, intense red color, and fantastic, sweet flavor. It performs perfectly in direct sales consumers are eager to come back for its fruit thanks to its attractive appearance and aromatic, truly “strawberry-like” taste.
Ripening period: a very early variety. In tunnels under cover, it can ripen even 3–5 days earlier than classic varieties such as Clery, and about 7–10 days earlier than Elsanta, as well as 5–7 days before Honeoye. The harvest is concentrated and not spread out over time.
Taste: very tasty fruit, exceptionally sweet with an intense aroma.
Fruit size: large and very attractive strawberries, with a high share of Class I fruit.
Fruit attractiveness and shape: elongated, conical, very well-shaped and uniform.
Fruit color: light red to intense red with a strong gloss; may darken at high temperatures.
Fruit firmness: the fruit of this variety is very firm.
Yield: a productive variety, although the yield is slightly lower compared to Alba. It has a relatively weak root system and requires precise irrigation and fertilization during the fruiting period.
Plant: has an open growth habit with long leaf petioles, which facilitates harvesting and fertilization.
Resistance: Resistant to most soil-borne diseases and powdery mildew. Susceptible to Phytophthora (preventive treatments are recommended immediately after planting) and to root system diseases; not recommended for sites fatigued by long-term strawberry cultivation. Sensitive to some herbicides, especially shortly after planting.
Purpose: excellent for direct sales and short supply chains; has poor post-harvest quality and is not suitable for long-distance transport.
Cultivation type: performs well in a temperate climate, especially under cover (tunnels, perforated foil), which protect the flowers from frost.
Cultivation recommendations: due to its very weak root system, it requires precise irrigation, frost protection, and supplementation of nutrients in the soil—especially during periods of intensive growth and fruiting. The variety needs a slightly higher amount of zinc, and its deficiency may reduce yield. Attention should also be paid to excess manganese, iron, and phosphates. This variety is sensitive to herbicides, so their use should be limited.
Origin: a variety bred by Flevo Berry in the Netherlands.

The Flair strawberry variety is protected by Community Plant Variety Rights. Its further resale or propagation (even for own use) is prohibited under penalty of liability for damages towards the variety owner – Flevo Berry B.V. The plants may be used solely for fruit production.
