Variety description

Falco is a productive mid-early strawberry variety with large, flavourful fruit. It is a very resilient cultivar with vigorous growth. Its berries are large, regular and conical in shape, intensely red, sweet, and notably firm.

Fruiting time:
Falco is a mid-early variety, starting to fruit approximately 3 days before Elsanta. The harvest period is relatively long.
Taste:
The fruit is very tasty, sweet with a slightly tangy aroma, and exceptionally juicy. It is often described as having the flavour of a “true summer strawberry.”

Fruit size:
Falco produces very large and large berries. The average fruit weight exceeds 28 grams. A high percentage of the crop meets Class I quality standards.
Fruit attractiveness and shape:
The berries are conical and very uniform in shape. Some of the first fruits may be exceptionally large.

Fruit colour:
The fruit is intensely red with an attractive glossy finish.
Fruit firmness:
Falco fruit is characterised by excellent shelf life, maintaining both flavour and gloss during storage. The berries are resistant to bruising and remain firm even at high temperatures. They are not easily damaged during harvest and do not develop pressure marks.

Yield:
Falco is a highly productive variety. Each inflorescence typically produces around 5 large fruits, each weighing over 28 grams. The cropping period is relatively long.
Plant:
The plant is vigorous. Flower trusses are positioned at leaf level, and the flowers are characterised by good pollen quality, ensuring excellent fruit set.

Resistance:
Falco shows high tolerance to Phytophthora cactorum and good tolerance to grey mould (Botrytis cinerea) and Rhizoctonia. In open-field cultivation, it also demonstrates high tolerance to powdery mildew, although preventive control is recommended in tunnel production. Despite its overall resilience, caution is advised when planting in soils where Verticillium may be present, especially in combination with nematodes.

Purpose:
Falco is suitable both for direct sales and for distribution through retail chains.

Cultivation type:
This variety performs very well in open-field production as well as in tunnels, on raised beds or in substrate systems.
Cultivation recommendations:
Falco has no special nutritional requirements and grows quickly. It is recommended to maintain a low nitrogen level before flowering, as this may prolong the initiation and differentiation period of flower buds.

Origin:
Falco is a variety bred by Flevo Berry in the Netherlands.
The indicated ripening time refers to traditional cultivation in Poland, in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, under standard weather conditions. The exact ripening time of strawberries depends on the local climate, seasonal weather conditions, and the cultivation method.

The Falco strawberry variety is protected by Community Plant Variety Rights. Its further resale or propagation (even for own use) is prohibited under penalty of liability for damages towards the variety owner – Flevo Berry B.V. The plants may be used solely for fruit production.
