Limalexia
Limalexia is an exceptionally tasty strawberry variety producing large, well-shaped fruits that retain their size throughout the harvest period. It delivers very high and uniform yields and shows strong resistance to diseases and stress. Limalexia performs well in most cultivation systems — both in open fields and under covers.
It’s an excellent choice for fresh market production, wholesale, home use, and organic farming.
Fruiting time: A medium-early, short-day variety.
It ripens around the same time as Elsanta, sometimes even several days later — typically from late June to around July 3–7 (under standard Polish field conditions).
Fruit quality:
• Taste: Excellent flavor — juicy, aromatic, and pleasantly textured.
• Size: Large, maintaining size throughout harvest, allowing quick and efficient picking.
• Shape and appearance: Uniform, attractive fruits with a high share of first-class quality.
• Color: Bright red to deep red, glossy skin, with firm, evenly colored flesh.
• Firmness: Medium — sufficient for transport. To maintain good firmness, limit nitrogen supply and ensure adequate potassium and calcium fertilization.
Productivity: Very high and consistent, even under high temperature conditions.
Plant type: Strong and vigorous growth. Plants are highly resilient and adapt well to various growing conditions.
Resistance: Limalexia has shown high resistance to common soil-borne diseases and performs reliably in both rainy and hot conditions.
The flowers are protected beneath the leaves, offering better frost tolerance.
Sulphur fertilization significantly reduces the risk of powdery mildew.
Purpose: Perfect for fresh market and wholesale sales due to the uniform, attractive fruit size and color. Also suitable for processing and home cultivation. One of the best varieties for organic production.
Cultivation systems
Limalexia can be grown successfully in a wide range of production systems —
• in open fields (preferably single-row planting due to vigorous growth),
• under tunnels, greenhouses, or table-top systems,
• suitable for spring, summer, and autumn production.
Proven in many regions across Europe and very well adapted to Polish conditions.
Cultivation recommendations
Limalexia requires low nitrogen, but responds very well to timely potassium applications.
The plants absorb sulphur efficiently, and higher sulphur levels in leaves further lower the risk of powdery mildew.
Always base fertilization on soil analysis to determine optimal mineral needs.
During fruiting, provide adequate water supply — the plants have a well-developed root system and efficiently absorb moisture.
When acidifying irrigation water, use sulphur or phosphoric acid instead of nitric acid.
