Hobby

Hobby is a modern late-season strawberry variety bred by Hortplant Jerzy Dominikowski, Poland. Ripening during the second half of the season, it helps extend the fresh strawberry marketing period. The variety was awarded the Prof. Szczepan A. Pieniążek Award at the 2025 Fruit and Vegetable Industry Fair (TSW).
Fruiting time:
Hobby is a late-season variety, ripening at approximately the same time as Florence. Harvest begins after Destiny and continues until the end of the Malwina season, providing an extended harvesting window.
Fruit Taste:
The berries are very sweet, juicy, and full of flavour, making Hobby an excellent dessert variety.
Fruit Size:
The fruit is medium to large, with more than 90% of the harvest meeting Class I quality standards.
Fruit attractiveness and shape:
The berries are uniform, regular, and conical, giving them an attractive appearance for the fresh market.
Fruit Colour:
The fruit develops an intense glossy red colour, ensuring excellent visual appeal.
Fruit firmness:
Hobby produces firm berries with very good transport tolerance, maintaining excellent quality during harvesting, storage, and distribution.
Yield:
Hobby is an extremely high-yielding variety, capable of producing up to 1.4 kg of fruit per plant under favourable growing conditions.
Plant:
The plants have an open, airy growth habit, which improves air circulation, facilitates crop protection, simplifies harvesting, and contributes to overall plant health.
Resistance:
Hobby shows good resistance to root diseases and leaf diseases, making it a reliable variety for commercial production.
Purpose:
Thanks to its excellent firmness and transport tolerance, Hobby is well suited for both direct sales and commercial retail distribution.
Cultivation type:
The variety performs particularly well in open-field cultivation. Due to its open plant habit, cultivation on single-row beds is recommended.

Hobby was bred by Hortplant Jerzy Dominkowski in Poland.
