Large Strawberry Varieties for Cultivation – Large and Extra-Large Fruits

Proven large-fruit strawberry varieties, including “giant” types – impressive, flavorful, and durable

Large-fruit strawberries are not only visually impressive, but also deliver full flavor, rich aroma, and the satisfaction of abundant harvests. Under Polish climatic conditions, strawberry varieties with large fruits perform particularly well, combining attractive size, durability, and good disease resistance. Among them are also varieties often described as giant strawberries, whose fruits stand out with truly exceptional size.

Recommended large-fruit strawberry varieties include:
BL*39 Arianna® – large, durable fruits with an intense flavor and glossy finish, valued by both hobby growers and professional producers.
Honeoye – a very early variety producing large, firm fruits, eagerly chosen for the fresh market.
Rumba – sweet strawberries with large, glossy fruits that retain firmness and shelf life for a long time.
San Andreas – an everbearing variety known for well-shaped, large fruits with uniform color and a long harvest period.
Hossa – a Polish everbearing variety with large, juicy fruits, very good firmness, and high yields; excellent both for the dessert market and for processing.
Grandarosa – an outstanding early variety distinguished by exceptionally large, “giant” and firm fruits, attractively colored with an appealing gloss.
Limalexia – a mid-early variety with shapely, large fruits that do not become smaller; fruits are uniform in color and glossy.
Vibrant – one of the earliest varieties, very productive, with very large and firm fruits; fruits are well exposed on long flower stalks.

For growers who want to obtain a harvest already in the year of planting, an excellent solution is large-fruit strawberry plants of the Frigo type (A, A+, A++). Planted in spring, they can produce their first large fruits after just 6–8 weeks, allowing much earlier harvests compared to traditional cultivation. Frigo A- plants will produce a full (100%) crop in the following year.
